C& D Foods BV in The Netherlands produce PRIVATE LABEL Petfood in cans.
C&D Foods recently purchased the Dutch production facility from Nestle Purina Petcare located in the harbor of IJmuiden. Since the market for branded canned petfood is declining the last years, Nestle was looking to find a buyer for the plant.

 

Own Production Facilities
For C&D this was an opportunity to restore it’s capability to produce canned petfood again, after, in 2006, a fire destroyed the C&D canning production facility in Ireland.

Since that moment C&D outsourced their canning production to third parties. Furthermore it gives C&D a foothold on the European continent.

C&D Foods was looking for their own production facilities and a foothold on the European continent. In June 2010 C&D Foods took over the Dutch production facility of Nestlé Purina to be able to produce (again) by themselves petfood in cans.

 

MK6 palletiser

“In 5 weeks a complete end-of-line packaging system had to be implemented in an empty hall, which was a great challenge for C&D Foods and their suppliers, ”But we all succeeded”, says manager maintenance & engineering, C&D Foods BV, Alfred van Betuw.  

A MK6 palletiser from DAN-Palletiser with sheet dispenser, roller conveyors and an Atlanta Revolution stretch wrapper were installed. The MK6 is on “hire base” and may later on be returned in favour of purchase of a MK3 palletiser. The roller conveyors and the stretch wrapper were purchased from the start.

 

”Some days we produce in 3 shifts, and some days in 1 shift, without any problems and with a good result”, says manager maintenance & engineering, C&D Foods BV, Alfred van Betuw.

To be able to meet the requirements of C&D customers, other types of packaging formats needed to be made. C&D is mainly producing private labeled cans for the UK and Irish markets.

 

Double production output
“This forced us to bring much more flexibility into brand options, 6/12/24 packs, kinds of packaging etc. With the new line we are ready for today and the future, because of the carefully prepared lay-out and the flexibility with the rental solution”, says manager maintenance & engineering, C&D Foods BV, Alfred van Betuw.

“From the beginning to the point of being ready for a double production output, it was a challenge to design the right layout and to choose the right equipment. With the option on renting a MK6 palletiser, C&D Foods have achieved a very fast operational system, and also the possibility of changing to another type of palletiser in the near future”, says manager maintenance & engineering, C&D Foods BV, Alfred van Betuw.
